Travel Day 10 – A Bustling City with No Place to Hide
Today we travelled to Florence. Having bought our tickets the day before on my phone (like I said before: **buy online**) we woke up, ate breakfast and packed all in about an hour and were on our way to the train station at 10:10. By the time we got there, picked up our tickets and figured out what gate to get through it was 10:20. Crazy right? Everything is so efficient in Europe and truest made for anyone to do. While there are times I get lost Dean always has my back.
The train ride was super relaxing; we just sat there and listened to music or watched some Netflix on then wifi while we travelled at 250km/hr. Once we arrived in Florence we walked over to our hostel, only a 5 minute walk from the station and signed in. The hostel has 2 terraces, the upper one overlooking the lower one, and I was stunned first walking in off the street. While the rooms aren’t the best (no AC other than a fan) and the wifi is horrid (took 30 minutes to upload the pictures alone last night) our room is right around the corner from the upper terrace.
Once we dropped our things off we headed into town to explore. Not really having any plans set, we decided to walk around to most of the shops and see what’s what. We walked into a couple “leather” shops and I tried on a couple of jackets. While I liked them Dean promised me there would me more and much better ones. A few vendors were quite pissed at my promises of coming back. Really we didn’t do much in the afternoon just browsing and comparing but we did visit the Duomo, the Ponte Santa Trinità and the central market. It was fun to finally do some window shopping in Italy and who knows where it will go.
While this is a shorter post I don’t really have more to say. We will be doing some more exploring tomorrow but we don’t have a definite itinerary as of yet. Really exploring the city has been the most fun, walking aimlessly around the streets has been a ball and Deans sense of direction has been the only saving grace. I guess this is all practice for Venice in the meantime! Until tomorrow!
