Travel Day 12 – Rest and Relaxation
On the 12 day Dean said unto Spencer, “let us rest.” Well not quite, but that’s the gist of what he meant. Today we woke up early to go to the Duomo. While I goofed up and thought it opened at 8:30 (that was the bell tower) we got there for 9:20 and found a line already forming halfway down the building. I hopped in the line while Dean went to confirm we were in the right line to begin with. We stood there for an hour to get into the Duomo that actually opened at 10:30 and once we got in we only spent 20 minutes exploring as the pews were out and blocked off for mass the following day. As we had now taken all the pictures we could muster, we headed out to wander the city once more. Even though we didn’t spend long in the Duomo, compared to St. Peter’s it is a conservative church whereas St. Peter’s each pope looks to leave his mark on the historical walls all amassing to a glorious structure.
Wandering the city has been incredibly fun, and the best views have been found doing so. Plus Dean is a great tour guide. I was in desperate need of another pair of shorts, so I ran into H&M quickly to grab some new shorts, and walked out with 2. Thank goodness I have a bit of variety now instead of just my red shorts. We headed back to the hostel stopping by the corner store to grab some food then just relaxed the rest of the day. As the title states, rest and relaxation was defiantly what the doctor ordered. Florence has been the best: no schedule, making up each day as we go, and taking it all in. Couldn’t have asked for better weather, but I will ask for a smaller mosquito count as they are out in full force and attacking legs. Tomorrow there’s a few things on the itinerary but once more, we’ll just walk and enjoy the city and some relaxation in the beautiful sun. Till then!
