Travel Day 2 – Dublin and the Hostel
So after waking up on the plane and eating our Subway sandwiches, Dean and I found ourselves on a decent into London at roughly 13:30 local time. *”Perfect,”* I thought as I figured we’ll have enough time to get to our flight to Dublin. We landed around 14:10, unloaded, ran to the train as we landed in the North terminal and flew out of the South so we needed to catch the train between stations. The train runs every 2 minutes – thank goodness – and once we got our tickets we found out that our second plane was running 30 minutes late!
Pro tip: put all your liquids in a baggie and ~take that baggie out~ at security. Woulda saved us some time.
Security was a gong show, everyone was getting checked so really, really happy the flight was delayed. By the time we got to the gate the flight had still not arrived, so time to update the parents and the Facebook. This is also where I learned that my Steemit account (where I was going to put these blogs) had been locked. *”Gah!,”* but so be it. Hence why these are now posted on Medium, but not a big deal.
We boarded the flight and took off around 16:45 (very delayed) and I managed to catch a snooze (big mistake as I didn’t sleep at all). Landed in Dublin around 17:30 and took a bus downtown. We were about 10 blocks away when we hopped off the bus and decided to walk the rest of the way to the Hostel. About 20 minutes along the sea wall and the hype was hitting an 9/10. We checked in around 18:45, showered (**felt A-M-A-Z-I-N-G**) then headed over to the pub as we hadn’t eaten in 11 hours.
Everyone is correct when they say Guinness tastes **way** different here than back home. That first Guinness, my God that first Guinness. Just smooth as smooth can be when it comes to porters. I dare say I may have to move here just for the Guinness alone. The meal we had at Grainger’s pub (just a block over from the hostel) had some amazing food. I really liked their in-house pickles that came on the burger. But 2 Guinness’ were enough for me as we headed back to the hostel to catch up on some sleep.
So just like that, the last leg of our flights and our first couple hours in Dublin and what a treat it’s been. I cannot wait for what tomorrow has to offer as we’re headed for Trinity Collage and the Book of Kells. ‘Till tomorrow!
